[ It's not a question he's asked often, but he answers it easily like it's something he's been rehearsing in his mind for a long time. ]

i always wanted to be a hero like the arcs of previous generations. it's been my dream for as long as i can remember, but i was never good enough.

what i really want though, is just to be strong enough to protect my team and my friends. if i can do just that alone, i'll be content. you remember pyrrha right?

[ . . . . . . hm. Tenka's text back actually takes a while as he thinks about it. It's definitely not a bad reason - in fact, it's something similar to what he told Sousei when they were younger. Eventually he responds.]

[That's the first text that Jaune gets. Tenka's writing up something more eloquent than that too but first - he wants Jaune to realize that it isn't stupid to want to live up to your partner. After all, Tenka's belief that he just might be a burden is what separated him and Sousei for 10 years. He'd rather not have anyone else suffer through that, even if it's less likely to be so dramatic.]

one of these days, tell sousei. don't leave anything out.

[Tenka's not sure if it'll entirely shake Sousei's unwillingness to teach Jaune but he also knows that his partner is far, far more lenient than he comes off as regularly.]

until he takes you on, i'll teach you.

[ Jaune's not sure if saying all of this would sway Sousei either. He said he would only teach him if Jaune had something to offer in return, and something tells Jaune that sewing fake animals on hats won't work as easily on Master Sousei. ]

[Just trust Tenka on this one, Jaune. In the end he's pretty sure he knows Sousei best of all and is pretty sure Sousei just isn't taking on Jaune as a student because he doesn't think it'll be worth it just yet. But he's actually a huge squishy--]

mary-chan's a teenager and you should make something that looks like a rabbit for her i think. lily-chan's younger than that though. but she likes dogs! oona-chan would like a fish.

i dunno about peko-chan though. maybe a cat?

and I can start teaching you as soon as you want but if you try to ambush me, i don't think you'll learn much if i knock you unconscious

run about 5 miles, once in the morning, once in the evening
500 sit-ups

pull-ups until you can't feel your arms anymore

if you can't do all of it in one day then cut everything by half and then work your way up

work on that until our first lesson

[ That's... quite the task. But if nothing else, Jaune is driven. And he is quite muscular in his upper body as it is, so exercise itself isn't foreign to him. It's a start, at least. ]
